You just got elected to the board.

Now what?

Serving on a co-op or condo board is one of the most impactful things you can do for your building and your community. It is also more complex than most new board members expect.

The decisions you make in your first year matter, a lot. And the boards that get it right are the ones who knew what they were walking into before they walked in.

This is the course that changes that.

Folson Board Academy is the first on-demand board member training program built specifically for New York City co-op and condo boards, created by people who have lived exactly what you are about to go through.

Tina Larsson and Mark Foley are the co-founders of The Folson Group. They did not come to board advisory work through a textbook. They organized a coup in their own building, took over the board, applied their Wall Street backgrounds to building operations, and saved their co-op $340,000. This course is built on everything they learned along the way as co-op owners, board members, and consultants working with dozens of NYC condo or coop boards.

Why Folson Board Academy is different

There are other training options out there. Most of them require you to show up at a set time, in a set place, determined by someone else's schedule.

This is not that.

Folson Board Academy is fully on-demand. You take it on your schedule, at your pace, on any device. Whether you want to complete the entire course over the weekend or work through one module at a time between board meetings, it is entirely up to you.

And when life gets in the way, because it will, your progress is saved and waiting for you exactly where you left off.

What you get

  • 9 video modules covering everything a new board member needs to know, from your legal responsibilities to running an effective meeting to working with your property manager

  • A quiz after every module so you can confirm you absorbed what matters before moving on

  • A downloadable resource with every module, practical tools and references you can use immediately in your building

  • A Certificate of Achievement to share with your fellow board members and add to your LinkedIn profile

Learn at your pace. Lead with confidence.

Most board members figure things out the hard way, through trial and error, awkward meetings, and decisions they wish they could take back. You do not have to do it that way.

Folson Board Academy gives you the foundation to walk into your first board meeting ready, not reactive.

This course is for you if:

  • You were just elected to a co-op or condo board and want to hit the ground running

  • You have been on the board for a while but never had formal training

  • Your building just went through a management transition or a board reorganization

  • You want to be the board member your building actually needs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this course only for new board members?

Not at all. While Folson Board Academy is designed to give new board members a strong foundation from day one, it is equally valuable for experienced board members who never had formal training, boards going through a management transition, and any board member who wants to show up more prepared and more confident at the table.

How long does the course take to complete?

The course includes 9 video modules, each running approximately 5 minutes. You can complete the entire course in under one hours, or work through one module at a time between board meetings. There are no deadlines and no fixed schedule. Your progress is saved automatically so you can pick up exactly where you left off.

How is this different from training offered by my property management firm or a co-op association?

Most board training options require you to show up at a set time determined by someone else. Folson Board Academy is fully on-demand, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on any device. It was also created by board members who have lived what you are going through, not by an organization with a general curriculum. The content is specific, practical, and built for the reality of running a New York City co-op or condo board.

Can my entire board take this course?

Yes, and we encourage it. When every board member goes through the same training, your meetings run better, decisions get made faster, and everyone is working from the same foundation. Group enrollment of up to 7 team members is included in the BOARD TEAM plan.

What if I don't pass a quiz?

No problem at all. Every quiz can be retaken as many times as you need. The quizzes are not there to trip you up, they are there to make sure the material sticks before you move on. A passing score of 80 percent is required to move to the next module, but there is no limit on attempts and no penalty for retaking.
